Carers
Week: 14th - 20th June 2004
The theme of National Carers Week this year was 'Health of Carers', and
so Carers of West Lothian took the opportunity to pamper carers in West
Lothian by providing free holistic therapy and aromatherapy sessions
during Carers Week in the Strathbrock Partnership Centre.
On Monday morning twelve carers and their families left by coach from
McArthur Glen Shopping Centre for a five day free holiday to Pontins in
Blackpool. The trip was organised by The Princess Royal Trust and Carers
of West Lothian, supported by Norwich Union.
We also set up information stands in the Almondvale Shopping Centre
(outside West Lothian Connected), in St John's Hospital during afternoon
visiting times, and in the Strathbrock Partnership Centre. Not only
have the staff and volunteers covering these stands raised awareness of
carers and Carers of West Lothian, but have also identified a number of
hidden carers offering them information and support. It has been a
very worthwhile effort and great fun to do. Free fresh fruit has
been available at all these stands, very kindly donated by Scotmid.
In addition Lyn Aitken, carer and keen gardener, put a lot of hard work
into running a plant sale in Strathbrock, with the proceeds of £282 going
directly to benefit carers.
At the end of the week, thanks to David Wilham, Operations Manager at
Deer Park Country Club in Livingston, one lucky carer and friend was
selected to spend a day at the leisure club relaxing with the use of free
facilities including swimming, sauna, steam room and gym.
We hope that Carers Week 2004 has helped to raise awareness of carers
and their needs and we look forward to offering help and support to more
and more carers over time.

Week Website.
