CARERS of WEST LOTHIAN
Providing Support, Information and a A Voice for Carers in West Lothian

Carers Week: 12th-18th June 2006
In Sickness and in Health

Carers Week supports the UK's six million carers - people who look after a sick or disabled friend, partner or relative. Many carers are not aware of the services available to them and the thousands of local events taking place across the UK will help to promote the support that does exist for carers.

This year, Carers Week (12-18 June) is focusing on the health and emotional well-being of carers. The theme of the Week, "In sickness and in health" aims to highlight the effects that caring can have on carers' own health and well-being and encourage more carers to seek support from local services. .

Carers Week 2006 is supported by a number of high-profile 'faces' including TV presenter Fiona Phillips, soap stars Sally Lindsay (Coronation Street) and Lacey Turner (Eastenders), David Jason, Esther Rantzen and Phylidda Law.

Fiona Phillips, GMTV, says: "I'm proud to be supporting this year's Carers' Week. I know from personal experience, with my chronically ill Mum, just how demanding such a role can be yet carers receive little, if any, recognition for the truly invaluable work they do. Join me and help raise awareness of the support and services available to the six million carers in the UK today

For this year's Carers Week, Carers of West Lothian, in partnership with West Lothian Leisure, have agreed free access to carers for a swim and steam room or sauna session during Carers week.  The offer is available at all six of West Lothian's pools: Armadale, Bathgate, Broxburn, Linlithgow, Whitburn and Bubbles in Livingston.  To make use of this offer carers need only take their copy of the Carers of West Lothian newsletter to the Leisure centre involved. (This offer being designed to benefit carers means that you need not be accompanying the person for whom you care).

In another initiative designed to raise awareness of carers health we have arranged a free holistic therapy session on aromatherapy, the use of essential oils and some basic techniques used in relaxation massage.  The session will be held at The Ability Centre, Carmondean Centre Road, Livingston on Wednesday 14th June 2006 between 1:30pm and 4:00pm. There will be limited places available so anyone interested should contact the Carers of West Lothian centre on 01506 771750.

In addition to these offers Carers of West Lothian will have representatives on information stands at various times throughout Carers Week.  If you feel you need any advice or information on your caring situation then please feel free to speak to us at the following locations:
