Time to deliver

A Report on "Carers Question Time" held on 18th April

West Lothian's unpaid carers quizzed local cross-party political candidates on what their promises to carers are now - and what they will deliver after the election.  The clear call from carers at the hustings event on 18th April in the Strathbrock Partnership Centre in Broxburn was for increased investment and support programme for carers which will save Scotland millions of pounds more than it will cost.

Mary Mulligan and Bristow Muldoon (Labour), Fiona Hyslop (SNP), Robin Harper (Green Party), Simon Clark (Lib Dem) and David Brown (Conservative) answered questions on a range of issues affecting carers including assessment of need, respite breaks from caring, and carers benefits.  Following the formal question and answer session, carers took the opportunity to raise further issues with individual candidates over a buffet lunch.

Carers of West Lothian, the local voluntary organisation supporting unpaid carers caring for a family member or friend, is urging West Lothian's 16,000 carers to use their vote wisely on 3rd May.  Ask candidates what their election manifesto says about carer support, and question them about what they will deliver for carers after the election.
