First Aid Courses for Carers

Many carers worry that they would panic in the event of an emergency with the person they care for.   Carers of West Lothian in partnership with The British Red Cross are arranging First Aid Courses to be held in the autumn and winter of 2008, the courses will be held over two days each session lasting three and a half hours. Details of each course are listed below;

Thursday 13th & Friday 14th November from 1pm - 4:30pm (Strathbrock Partnership Centre)

Thursday 29th & Friday 30th January 2009 from 1pm - 4:30pm (Strathbrock Partnership Centre)

Thursday 26th & Friday 27th February 2009 from 1pm - 4:30pm (Strathbrock Partnership Centre)

Some skills that carers could learn on the general course are;

  • Adult Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) (if anyone attending wishes to learn child CPR this should be arranged prior to the course commencing)
  • Major Injuries (including blood loss, shock, muscular/skeletal injury, burns and scalds
  • Fractures
  • Attending to the needs of an unconscious person

The course is free to all carers and will be held at the Strathbrock Partnership Centre in Broxburn. A lunch of soup and sandwiches will be provided free before each session at 12.15pm. At the end of the course carers will receive a certificate and a First Aid Manual.

Assistance will be available to arrange and pay for transport and/or sitter costs for any carer who wishes to attend.

Any carers who would benefit from such a course should contact Jim Brown on 01506 771750 to reserve a place.
