CARERS of WEST LOTHIAN
Providing Support, Information and a A Voice for Carers in West Lothian

Carers of West Lothian Press Releases

Notes for Editors

General notes for the Editor:

  • Please include contact details for Carers of West Lothian in all printed articles.
  • Carers are ordinary people - parents, husbands, wives, sons, daughters, relatives or just good friends - who look after relatives, friends or neighbours who are unwell, disabled or elderly. Without the help and support provided by carers many of those that are cared for would require additional help from health and social services.
  • There is estimated to be over 16,000 carers in West Lothian who provide the bulk of care in the community. It is thought that carers save West Lothian £149 million per year in care costs yet many carers feel isolated and unsupported (Data source - General Register Office for Scotland, Mid-2000 Population Estimate (2002)). The support they provide is unpaid and brings no social status or contract of employment and can result in ill health, financial hardship and social exclusion.
  • Carers of West Lothian is a local organisation, led and managed by carers, and is a Scottish Charity.  Its aim is to provide support, information, a voice for carers and to work with others to ensure a better quality of life for all carers.
